Am realistischsten wird das Rennerlebnis mit einem Lenkrad, das Force-Feedback-Effekte unterstützt. Diese sind den Entwicklern wirklich außerordentlich gut gelungen, man spürt förmlich, wie der Wagen beginnt auszubrechen und kann sofort reagieren. Ist es dazu allerdings zu spät, reißt es einen regelrecht mit herum, wenn sich der Wagen dreht oder man im Kiesbett landet.

Grand Prix 3 bietet im Gegensatz zu seinen beiden Vorgängern erstmals ein richtiges Wettersystem. Auch wenn Racing Simulation 2 dies ebenfalls besitzt, ist die Umsetzung in Grand Prix 3 deutlich besser gelungen. So ist es möglich, dass es nur auf bestimmten Streckenabschnitten regnet, wie es z.B. beim Deutschland-Grand Prix indiesem Jahr der Fall war.

Dabei bleibt auch die Frage nicht aus, welche Reifen man wählen sollte. Da es nur auf einem Teil der Strecke regnet, wären Regenreifen nicht so gut. Bei hohen Geschwindigkeiten auf trockenem Asphalt schmelzen sie schon fast dahin.

Dagegen sind Trockenreifen auf nasser Strecke ein hohes Risiko. Die Wahl liegt natürlich beim Fahrer, immerhin kann man, sofern man auf Trockenreifen bleibt, wertvolle Zeit und einen Boxenstopp sparen. Aber falls es später noch mehr regnet, ist das wieder hinfällig.

Wie in Grand Prix 2 darf am Auto natürlich wieder kräftig geschraubt und gebastelt werden. Vom Winkel des Flügels über den Bodenabstand bis hin zur Getriebeübersetzung. Diese Einstellungen sind auch nötig, denn um den Wagen wirklich richtig auf die jeweilige Strecke abzustimmen ist viel Kleinarbeit nötig. Diese macht sich allerdings stark im Rennergebnis bemerkbar. Mit einem nicht abgestimmten Wagen wird man kaum den Rundenrekord brechen, geschweige denn die Pole Position holen.

Das Wagensetup ist zusätzlich noch in 3 Gruppen unterteilt. Die erste ist für Einsteiger gedacht, man kann nur das Notwendigste am Wagen einstellen. In der zweiten Stufe, für Fortgeschrittene vorgesehen, ist schon mehr erlaubt, und in der dritten und letzten Stufe kann man wirklich alles einstellen, wie ein richtiger Formel 1 Fahrer eben.
