Spielerisch O.K.

Da Ihr immer nur die von Euch zuerst ausgewählte Figur steuert, seid Ihr auch stark auf das spielerische Verhalten Eures Partners angewiesen. Doch glücklicherweise erlaubt sich die KI nur selten üble Schnitzer, so dass Ihr eigentlich keine Probleme haben solltet, sowohl gute Zuspiele von Eurem Mitspieler zu bekommen als auch den Teamkollegen gut für einen Schmetterschlag zu positionieren.

Die Steuerung ist ebenfalls gut gelöst: Für jede Spielsituation gibt es drei verschiedene Varianten, die im Zusammenspiel mit dem Partner den Gegner immer wieder in Bedrängnis bringen können. Um jedoch einen erfolgreichen Spielzug durchzuführen, müsst Ihr zwei Dinge beachten: Zum einen müsst Ihr so gut wie möglich zum Ball stehen und damit zusammenhängend ist die Länge des Knopfdrucks entscheidend, wie gut der Ball weitergespielt wird.

Habt Ihr beispielsweise genug Zeit, Euch gut auf die Annahme vorzubereiten und könnt den Knopf entsprechend lange drücken, wird das Zuspiel auf den Partner genauer bzw. habt Ihr mehr Kontrolle über den Schmetterschlag.
Dementsprechend könnte Euer Mitspieler Schwierigkeiten bekommen, wenn Ihr den Ball in einer falschen Position annehmen müsst und dazu noch wenig Zeit für den Knopfdruck habt.

Multiplayer und Mini-Games inklusive

So sehr der Einzelspieler-Modus trotz zur Verfügung stehender Mini-Spielchen auf Dauer im Bereich Motivation stetig nach unten zeigt, so sehr kann Summer Heat Beach Volleyball im Multiplayer-Modus für heiße Duelle sorgen.
Die Spieldauer ist variabel einstellbar und durch die angesprochen gute Steuerung kann es bei gleichwertigen Gegnern zu langen und spannenden Ballwechseln kommen.

Daher kann man das PS2-Volleyball spielerisch fast auf eine Stufe mit Beach Spikers für den GameCube stellen, das genau wie Acclaims Strandausflug an einem eher durchwachsenen Einzelspieler-Erlebnis krankt.
