Seit Tony Hawk massive Verkaufszahlen erreichte, kommt nun einiges an Konkurrenz auf den Markt. Unter anderem findet man auch MTVs jüngst gesponsorten Sprössling mit dem Untertitel “Featuring Andy MacDonald”. Ob man nun besser mit Hawk oder mit MacDonald auf der Playstation skatet, erfahrt Ihr hier.

Tony Hawk konnte THQs Titel aus naheliegenden Gründen nicht vorweisen. An Berühmtheiten fehlt es dennoch nicht: Rick Howard und Alan Petersen sind neben 12 weiteren Skatern unter Lizenz. Neben diesen stehen auch noch 15 weitere fiktive Skater zur Wahl.

Gameplay

Habt Ihr Euch einen Skater, das passende Outfit und das Board ausgewählt, stehen Euch sechs Modi frei. Im Freeplay trainiert Ihr eure Tricks in diversen Parcours und Halfpipes ohne Zeit- oder Punktedruck. Das Training ist durchaus zu empfehlen, da der Lifestyle und der Survivalmodus die Messlatte weit oben liegen haben. Im Letzteren stehen Euch 30 Sekunden zur Verfügung, die stetig abnehmen. Je abgedrehter und ausgefallener die Tricks, desto mehr Zeit bekommt Ihr wieder gutgeschrieben. Der Stuntmodus hingegen bietet unbegrenzt (das vorgegebene Zeitlimit erreicht man in der Praxis nie) Zeit und eine riesige Sprungchance. Grundsätzlich eine gute Idee, da einem viel Freiheit für eine Menge von Stunts zur Verfügung gestellt wird. Allerdings muss man den Absprungzeitpunkt so genau treffen, dass man nicht selten beim fünften Versuch erst das andere Ende erreicht.

Weiter bietet MTV:Skateboarding einen Huntmode, in dem man möglichst viele Logos des Musiksenders einsammeln muss. Anfangs kann das ein sehr frustrierendes Erlebnis sein, da jeder noch so kleine Sturz, der eben nicht selten vorkommt, ein Logo kostet. Auch ein Highscoremodus wurde eingebaut. Prinzipiell hätte man ihn auch weglassen können, da in den anderen Modi die Score auch angerechnet wird. Im Zentrum steht allerdings der Lifestylemodus. Hier sucht Ihr Euch einen Skater aus und nehmt an verschiedenen Wettbewerben teil, um Euch Strecken, Outfits und Boards zu erspielen. Letztendlich ist das Ziel, von ganz unten den Weltmeisterthron zu erklimmen.
