Das Ausdauerrennen in Frankreich ist eine Belastungsprobe für Mensch und Maschine, dem Sieger winken Ruhm und Ehre. Jetzt könnt Ihr auch auf der PlayStation 2 zeigen, ob Ihr das Zeug habt, gegen die Rennsport-Elite zu bestehen. Und wir schauen in einem ausführlichen Test, ob Le Mans 24 Stunden das Zeug hat, zu beweisen, dass es ein Leben nach GT3 gibt.

Gameplay

Nach einem schön geschnittenen, wenn auch qualitativ sicherlich nicht zur Elite gehörenden Intro-Video findet Ihr Euch in dem übersichtlichen Hauptmenü wieder, in dem Ihr Euch für einen der diversen Spielmodi entscheiden könnt.

Wahlweise habt Ihr ein Schnelles Rennen (welche Rennen sind eigentlich nicht schnell?) zu fahren, Euch durch die zahlreichen Meisterschaften zu kämpfen, im Le Mans-Modus Ausdauer zu zeigen, oder zu versuchen, in der Time Attack die Spitzenzeiten zu knacken.

Im Schnellen Rennen stehen Euch anfänglich vier der insgesamt zwölf im Spiel enthaltenen Kurse zur Verfügung, die allesamt nach realen Vorbildern modelliert wurden, und die Ihr mit einem der insgesamt mehr als 70 voll lizenzierten Fahrzeugen aus drei Kategorien befahren könnt. Anfänglich stehen jedoch nur recht wenige Rennwagen zur Auswahl, doch wenn Ihr Siege in der Time Attack bzw. in den Meisterschaften einfahren könnt, winken als Bonus neue Fahrzeuge.

Die Meisterschaften sind in acht Wettbewerbe eingeteilt, die sich ebenfalls erst nach und nach -mit dem Sieg in der jeweiligen Klasse- frei schalten lassen. Während Ihr in der Rookie GT-Klasse kaum Schwierigkeiten haben werdet, die recht wenigen Gegner in Grund und Boden zu fahren, wird spätestens in der Prototype Endurance Euer ganzes Können gefordert, zumal in späteren Serien auch die Anzahl der Gegner bis auf 24 steigen kann.
Doch wem das alles zu happig wird, wählt einfach einen niedrigen Schwierigkeitsgrad, der das Siegen für Fortgeschrittene jedoch fast schon zu einfach macht, Fahranfängern jedoch eine gern gesehene und motivierende Möglichkeit gibt, trotz möglicher Fahrfehler aufs Siegertreppchen zu gelangen.

Im Le Mans-Modus schließlich habt Ihr die Möglichkeit, Euch auf der legendären französischen Rennstrecke bzw. ihrem kleinen Ableger in Amerika (Petit Le Mans) zu versuchen.
Da es bei diesen Strecken darauf ankommt, eine größtmögliche Anzahl an Runden zu fahren, wird hier die Renndauer nicht in Runden, sondern in Zeit eingestellt.
