Wie gehabt dreht sich auch Sams neues Abenteuer um seinen Erzfeind Mental \u2013 genauer gesagt um dessen Spr\u00f6ssling, der, als Papa B\u00f6sewicht gerade das Haus verlassen hat, dank kindlicher Neugier das zarte Raum-Zeit-Gef\u00fcge zu destabilisieren droht. Wie gut, dass Sam und sein Wissenschaftlerkumpel gerade eine Zeitmaschine bei der Hand haben, mit der der schwarzhaarige H\u00fcne kreuz und quer durch die Vergangenheit geschickt wird, um zu korrigieren, was zu korrigieren ist. Im Klartext hei\u00dft das: Alles niederballern, was sich bewegt. Falls es still steht, kann draufhalten aber auch nicht schaden. Ziel der Bleigr\u00fc\u00dfe sind die \u00fcblichen Gegnerrudel, von denen viele bekannt, aber einige auch neu in Sams kleiner Welt sind: Psycho-Affen, bei\u00dffreudige F\u00fc\u00dfe mit Z\u00e4hnen, mutierte Fr\u00f6sche, ironischerweise lauthals schreiende kopflose Selbstm\u00f6rder, Mechano-Droiden uswusf. Die sind nicht nur teilweise recht gro\u00df, sondern auch mit der Hirnkapazit\u00e4t eines glatten Steins gesegnet, sprich: Euch erwartet kein wirklicher Widerstand, sondern nur zahlenm\u00e4\u00dfige \u00dcberlegenheit \u2013 ganz\u00a0in Sam-Tradition eben.
Das Waffensortiment verspricht ebenfalls wenig \u00dcberraschungen: Kettens\u00e4ge, Scharfsch\u00fctzengewehr, Minigun, dicke fette Kanone und Doppelpistole, -schrotflinte sowie -Uzis halten die Gegner zuverl\u00e4ssig in Schach bzw. auf Distanz. Die meisten Knarren haben zwei Feuermodi oder k\u00f6nnen mit unterschiedlichen Munitionsarten beladen werden. Was nichts daran \u00e4ndert, dass man einfach draufh\u00e4lt und abwartet. Gelegentlich d\u00fcrft ihr auch eure F\u00fc\u00dfe schonen, und im Sam-Mobil auf Gegnerjagd gehen, wobei ihr auch aus dem Fahrzeug ballern k\u00f6nnt. Leider d\u00fcrft ihr nur per Analogstick Gas geben, was anfangs in einem merkw\u00fcrdig schlingernden Jeep, U-Boot oder M\u00e4hdrescher resultiert \u2013 Gas auf Knopfdruck w\u00e4re sicherlich eine w\u00fcnschenswerte Alternative gewesen, aber leider kann man die Steuerung nicht verstellen.

Der PC-Sam gl\u00e4nzte vor allem grafisch; Spieler waren von den weitl\u00e4ufigen Landschaften und Hammer-Texturen begeistert. Auf PS2 und GameCube br\u00f6ckelt der Lack schon sehr, denn um eine stabile Framerate zu gew\u00e4hrleisten, haben die Entwickler kr\u00e4ftig an der Optik gespart: Sowohl Gegner als auch Levelarchitektur bestehen aus wenigen Polygonen, speziell die Figurentexturen sind extrem niedrig aufgel\u00f6st, die Landschaften flimmerfreudig. <\/P>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0__NEWCOL__
Die\u00a0farbenfrohen Explosionen sehen zwar am Anfang nett aus, wiederholen sich aber dauernd, au\u00dferdem vermisst man einen 60Hz-Modus \u2013 die PAL-Balken halten sich jedoch in Grenzen. Allerdings sind die Ladezeiten bemerkenswert flott, au\u00dferdem bricht die Spielgeschwindigkeit nie ein \u2013 was u.a. daran liegen kann, dass auch bei den Gegnerhorden der Rotstift angesetzt wurde; viel mehr als ein Dutzend Widersacher auf einmal bekommt man nur selten zu Gesicht.

Auf der PS2 k\u00f6nnt ihr Ersteres auch online austragen \u2013 das ist das wesentliche Unterscheidungsmerkmal der beiden Konsolenversionen, die sich sonst wie ein geh\u00f6rnter Gegner dem anderen gleichen.

<\/STRONG>Das Arcade-Spielprinzip wird endlich auch als solches behandelt: mit jeder Menge Kombos und bei einem hohen Bodycount den Bildschirm f\u00fcllenden Punkteanzeigen. Das ist nicht nur optischer Schnickschnack, sondern bringt euch Medaillen ein, mit denen ihr Cheats, versteckte Levels und mehr freischalten k\u00f6nnt. Gespeichert wird ausschlie\u00dflich automatisch, und das auch nur am Ende der durchschnittlich nicht sehr langen Levels. Frohnaturen k\u00f6nnen \u00fcberdies statt dem klassisch spritzenden Comic-Saft auch die etwas friedlichere Hippie-Variante w\u00e4hlen, bei der die Gegner Blumen und Pilze (!) bluten.
Akustisch bleibt alles beim Alten: Die Soundeffekte sind wohlvertraut, Sams Spr\u00fcche (\u00bbDouble the gun, double the fun!\u00ab) ebenso \u2013 die Sprachausgabe ist \u00fcbrigens unabh\u00e4ngig von der gew\u00e4hlten Bildschirmsprache imemr englisch. Dazu blubbert die Musik, eine Mischung aus Rock und Techno, erstaunlich unspektakul\u00e4r aus den Boxen. <\/P>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Fazit<\/strong><\/h3>Der erste Eindruck war schon mal nicht der Beste; ein halbes Dutzend Credits- und Ladescreens stehen als erste H\u00fcrde vor dem Hauptmen\u00fc. Dann die ziemlich unspektakul\u00e4re Grafik, die weder der PS2 noch dem GameCube und schon gar nicht der Serious Sam-Reihe gerecht wird. Aber dann das Wunder: Es macht immer noch Spa\u00df! Auf Dauer (was angesichts der recht kurzen Durchspielzeit ein relativer Begriff ist) ist die Endlos-Ballerei doch recht erm\u00fcdend.
