Ein Jazz-Quartett im d\u00fcsteren Wald<\/h2>\n
Im kleinen Erz\u00e4hlspiel The Forest Quartet des d\u00e4nischen Indie-Entwicklers Mads & Friends dreht sich alles um die individuelle Trauerverarbeitung und den Umgang mit dem Verlust eines geliebten Menschen. In dem knapp 90-min\u00fctigen R\u00e4tsel-Abenteuer muss eine Jazz-Band den Tod ihrer S\u00e4ngerin verkraften und f\u00fcr ein letztes Konzert wieder zueinanderfinden, um der Musikerin und Freundin die letzte Ehre zu erweisen.

Dieses Motiv ist nicht neu in Videospielen \u2013 Indie-Titel wie What Remains of Edith Finch oder auch das Zelda-\u00e4hnliche Action-Adventure Rime besch\u00e4ftigen sich intensiv mit dem Verlust eines geliebten Menschen und der darauffolgenden Trauerarbeit. In The Forest Quartet steuere ich den Geist der verstorbenen Jazz-S\u00e4ngerin Nina durch die Gedanken der drei \u00fcbrigen Bandmitglieder und muss ihnen durch das L\u00f6sen kleiner R\u00e4tselpassagen bei der Verarbeitung behilflich sein.

Licht in der Dunkelheit: Die Atmosph\u00e4re von The Forest Quartet ist gelungen. \u00a9 4P\/Screenshot<\/div>\n<\/div>\nSo muss ich etwa Bassist JB von seinen \u00c4ngsten befreien, indem ich im Wald verstreute Lampen in der richtigen Reihenfolge aktiviere und schattenhafte Kreaturen vertreibe, die zwischen den d\u00fcsteren B\u00e4umen ihr Unwesen treiben. Oder ich helfe dem Pianisten Kirk aus seiner l\u00e4hmenden Depression , dadurch dass ich den metaphorisch \u00fcber einen Pilzbewuchs illustrierten Zerfall seiner Umgebung aufhalte, der ihn an sein Haus fesselt. Daf\u00fcr muss ich abstrakte Apparaturen im Wald reaktivieren, Elemente finden und mit der Stimme der S\u00e4ngerin aktivieren.

Der Geist von Nina kann vor allem \u00fcber ihre Stimme interagieren und Ger\u00e4tschaften Leben einhauchen. Einzelne Passagen verlangen ein gewisses Timing, etwa wenn ich Lampen in den H\u00e4nden von Schattenwesen aktiveren muss. Zudem kann sie per Tastendruck auch auf h\u00f6hergelegene Plattformen schweben, etwa um dort notwendige Gegenst\u00e4nde zu aufzulesen oder einen Schalter zu aktiveren.

Die R\u00e4tsel sind durchaus abwechslungsreich aber einfach nicht besonders anspruchsvoll. \u00a9 4P\/Screenshot<\/div>\n<\/div>\nDabei \u00fcberzeugt The Forest Quartet vor allem audiovisuell \u2013 denn der d\u00fcstere Wald wird von Nina in sehr ansehnliches, warmes Licht getaucht, das teils tolle Panoramen und Szenerien auf den Bildschirm zeichnet. Der sanfte Soundtrack und klare Effekte unterstreichen diese dichte Atmosph\u00e4re. Diese gro\u00dfe St\u00e4rke von The Forest Quartet wird leider spielerisch nicht unterstrichen. Wo Rime teilweise spannende R\u00e4tsel inszeniert, ist hier sehr selten echter Anspruch vorhanden.

Die meisten Aufgaben lassen sich sehr schnell l\u00f6sen, auch wenn sich in den knapp anderhalb Stunden Spielzeit erstaunlich viele R\u00e4tsel-Varianten finden, die von Schalterr\u00e4tseln bis Mini-Puzzles reichen. Dennoch hat man nach dem Abspann leider das Gef\u00fchl, nur das Tutorial eines Spiels absolviert zu haben. Das wichtige Thema und seine gef\u00fchlvolle Umsetzung, welche mit Podcast-\u00e4hnlichen Gespr\u00e4chen zwischen den Bandmitgliedern noch mehr Tiefe verliehen bekommt, kann diese Schw\u00e4che leider nicht ganz auffangen, was The Forest Quartet letztlich etwas belanglos erscheinen l\u00e4sst. Auch erz\u00e4hlerisch bietet das Adventure nicht viel mehr als sein Grundthema und verl\u00e4sst sich auf die Abstraktion der Trauerformen der einzelnen Figuren. Das ist einf\u00fchlsam, aber eben auch nicht besonders wendungsreich.\n

Fazit<\/strong><\/h3>The Forest Quartet ist ein sehr einf\u00fchlsames und audiovisuell durchaus gelungenes Erlebnis, das mit rund anderhalb Stunden Spielzeit allerdings auch sehr knapp ausgefallen ist. Leider kann das Erz\u00e4hl-Adventure spielerisch nicht an seine St\u00e4rken ankn\u00fcpfen und verl\u00e4sst sich zu sehr auf die Abstraktion der Trauerphasen. So sind die R\u00e4tsel trotz ordentlicher Variation zu einfach und weitestgehend reines Mittel zum Zweck, um die Reise durch die Gedanken der Bandmitglieder zu symbolisieren. Das ist sicher eine lohnenswerte und durchaus auch emotionale Erfahrung, nach tollen Spielen wie Rime oder What Remains of Edith Finch, die sich in deutlich gr\u00f6\u00dferem Ma\u00dfstab mit einem \u00e4hnlichen Thema auseinandergesetzt haben aber insgesamt auch ein Waldspaziergang mit etwas zu wenig Inhalt und Tiefgang.<\/div><\/div>
