Wer das Champions League-Finale 1998/1999 zwischen Bayern München und Manchester United gesehen hat, weiß, was in der Königsklasse des europäischen Fußballs steckt. Spannung bis zur wortwörtlich letzten Minute. Auch die Herausgeber von Take 2 scheinen dies bemerkt zu haben, und präsentieren einmal mehr das offizielle Videospiel zur Champions League . Die echten Vereinsnamen und alle Top-Spieler versprechen puren Fußballgenuss im angesehensten Vereins-Wettbewerb der Welt.

Spielbarkeit/Gameplay

Von Anfang an fühlt man sich, als wäre man Teil einer RTL-Liveübertragung. Sound, Grafik, Spieler- und Mannschaftsnamen lassen Euch in die faszinierende Welt der Champions League eintauchen. Zu Beginn stellt man den Spielmodus ein. Man kann ein Freundschaftsspiel wählen, einen K.O.-Wettbewerb spielen, ein eigenes Turnier erstellen oder die Champions League 2000/2001 nachspielen. Neben den aktuellen Mannschaften ist es diesmal auch möglich, sich mit 40 ehemaligen Gewinnern des Landesmeistercups bzw. der Champions League zu messen.

Die Mannschaften sowie die Spieler haben verschiedene Punktwerte, die für ihre Stärke stehen. So ist es innerhalb der drei Schwierigkeitsstufen möglich, sich neuen Herausforderungen zu stellen. Wer zum Beispiel mit Helsingborg IF im schweren Modus Champions League-Sieger wird, verdient allerhöchsten Respekt.

Während des eigentlichen Spiels sind allerhand Einstellungen möglich: Formation, Taktik und Auswechselungen sind jeder Zeit veränderbar. Die dazu nötigen Menüs hat man nach einem ausgeklügelten System ausgearbeitet und übersichtlich angeordnet; sogar an einen Erschöpfungsgrad wurde gedacht.

Die Steuerung ist sehr zufriedenstellend. Die Tastenbelegung erfordert ein wenig Eingewöhnungszeit, erscheint dem Spieler dann aber als überaus einleuchtend. An die geniale Einfachheit der FIFA-Reihe reicht sie aber leider nicht heran. Zu empfehlen ist auf jeden Fall die Steuerung per Analog-Stick. Wer auch noch ein eingebautes RumblePack hat, kann sich auf überraschende Vibrationseffekte freuen.

Alles in allem hat UEFA Champions League 2000/2001 eine Vielzahl von Optionen, Einstellungsmöglichkeiten und Spielmodi, die zum großen Teil sehr sinnvoll sind und zur Langzeitmotivation des Spiels beitragen. Zusammen mit dem eigenständigen Gameplay handelt es sich hier also durchaus um ein durchdachtes, “erwachsenes” Fußballspiel.
