Darüber hinaus kann man sich als Angreifer, Zerstörer, Scharfschütze, Ingenieur, Unterstützer oder Tank spezialisieren und entsprechende Charakter-Builds als Presets abspeichern. Auch auf die Ausrüstung, Entwicklung und das Verhalten des eigenen KI-Partners kann man Einfluss nehmen, wobei die KI generell eher durchwachsen ist – egal, ob bei Freund oder Feind.

Vor allem an der Wegfindung und Zielerkennung hapert’s mitunter gewaltig. Für erfolgreiche Leistungen wie Heilungen oder Wiederbelebungen kann man seine Mitstreiter aber auch loben und so vorübergehend den Zusammenhalt bzw. die Gruppenwerte stärken.

Wenn man mit bestimmten Charakteren besonders viele Einsätze bestreitet und Zeit verbringt, festigt das sogar die Freundschaft, wodurch man nicht nur individuelle Ereignisse auslösen, sondern auch das Spielende beeinflussen kann. Im Verlauf der 30 bis 40 stündigen Einzelspieler-Kampagne der Hauptgeschichte können nicht nur Storymissionen, sondern auch zahlreiche Neben-, Jagd-, Spezialgegner- und Schatzsuche-Quests absolviert werden. Zudem kann ein sehr zeitaufwändiges Bonusende in Angriff genommen werden. Darüber hinaus kann man eintauschbare Medaillen sammeln, mit Informationen handeln, gefundene Gegenstände identifizieren lassen, sich den Kopf über Geldanlagen zerbrechen und mehr.

Gegner aus Fleisch und Blut

Ein echter Mehspielermodus ist ebenfalls mit an Bord. Allerdings kann man da lediglich PvE- oder PvP-basierte Kurz- und Staffeleinsätze bestreiten. Kooperativ können bis zu vier Spieler mit KI-Begleitern, kompetitiv sogar bis zu acht Spieler in die Schlacht ziehen.

Ein paar Runden lang ganz nett, auf Dauer aber trotz Ranglisten, Zuschauermodus und alternativ spielbarer Story-Charaktere eher unspektakulär. Kein Wunder, dass trotz globaler Server meist nur wenige Spieler online anzutreffen sind.

Nintendo-Switch-Online-User werden dennoch detaillierte Matchmaking-Optionen vermissen und auch sonst wirkt der technische Unterbau nicht besonders solide. Hinzu kommen nervige Lags, Spielabbrüche und grafische Defizite. Die Lokalisierung lässt ebenfalls zu wünschen übrig: Sprachausgabe gibt’s nur auf Japanisch und dazu durchwachsene deutsche Untertitel. Immerhin werden alle wichtigen Infos in Datenbanken vermerkt und für unterwegs gibt es eine praktische Kartenfunktion mit freischaltbaren Schnellreisepunkten.
