Auch Titelheld Fayt Leingod dürfte mit seiner Situation im neusten Teil der Star Ocean-Saga alles andere als zufrieden sein. Gerade genießt er noch mit Freundin und Eltern den Familienurlaub auf Hyda IV, als der idyllische Erholungsplanet plötzlich Schauplatz einer militärischen Großoffensive wird. Doch damit nicht genug, werdet ihr während der Evakuierung auch noch von euren Liebsten getrennt,

müsst später euer havarierendes Transportschiff mit einer Rettungskapsel verlassen und strandet letztendlich mutterseelenallein auf Vanguard III, einem unberührten Planeten mit mittelalterlicher Entwicklungsstufe.

Undercover in die Vergangenheit

Um dort nicht aufzufallen wie ein Fahrrad fahrender Fisch, generiert ihr euch flugs eine zeitgemäße Waffe, aktiviert euren intelligenten Sprachchip und gebt euch als Reisender aus fernen Landen aus. Später trefft ihr dann auf weitere Gestalten, die hier nicht her gehören, helft unterdrückten Dorfbewohnern und schließt euch einem mysteriösen Abgesandten an, der euch bis hier her verfolgt hat und noch weiter durch die Galaxie schleifen wird. Vanguard III ist nämlich nur ein Zwischenstopp auf eurer Odyssey durch Raum und Zeit, auf der euch noch viele andere Abenteuer erwarten, während ihr immer mehr über die Zusammenhänge zwischen euch, eurem Begleiter, der Invasion auf Hydra IV sowie eurem finalen Reiseziel erfahrt.

Keine Zufallsfights: Wer nicht kämpfen will, weicht den Gegnern einfach aus.
Zwischen zwei Welten

Den Spagat zwischen mittelalterlichen Fantasy- und futuristischen SciFi-Welten haben die Entwickler dabei gut hinbekommen, denn statt mit Laserschwert und Energiepistole Drachen und Ritter zu plätten, hält sich Fayt nach Möglichkeit an die Richtlinien eines intergalaktischen Abkommens, welches den Eingriff in die Evolution eines unterentwickelten Planeten strikt untersagt. Dementsprechend verwendet ihr nach Möglichkeit nur heimische Waffen und Rüstungen, während ihr eure Herkunft geschickt zu verschleiern versucht. Das klappt zwar nicht immer so wie geplant, führt aber nur sehr selten zu Diskrepanzen.

Technische Unzulänglichkeiten

Grafisch wird euch die Spielwelt erstmals bei Star Ocean in 3D präsentiert, wobei kulleräugige Anime-Charaktere auf stimmungsvolle Polygon-Landschaften treffen. Leider treffen dabei hierzulande auch fette PAL-Balken auf 60Hz-taugliche Fernsehgeräte, die einfach verschmäht werden. Heimkino-Fans dürfen sich aber zumindest über einen 16:9-Modus sowie Pro Logic II-Support freuen. Weniger erfreulich dürfte hingegen der Umstand ankommen, dass das Spiel nicht eingedeutscht wurde – sowohl Sprachausgabe, Untertitel als auch Bildschirmtexte sind komplett auf Englisch und setzen teils sehr profunde Sprachkenntnisse voraus. Dafür ist die englische Synchro ganz ordentlich, auch wenn sie dank schlechter Abmischung immer wieder vom teils extrem nervigen Synthie-Rock-Soundtrack verschluckt wird.

    meines wissens gibts keine levelbeschränkung,daher solltest du eigentlich ohne probleme auf lvl255 kommen können =P

    ja,SO:TSS war/ist um einiges besser und auch ich war enttäuscht von TTEOT.
    jedoch hat mir das den spielspass nicht genommen =)

  2. Legt euch Star Ocean: The Second Story (psx) zu, dann merkt ihr wie schlecht Till The End Of Time im vergleich(!) ist.
    An sich gutes Spiel nur eben leider auf Englisch, aber ich als großer Fan des Vorgängers bin maßlos enttäuscht, was mich trotzdem nicht davon abgehalten hat dieses Game zu zocken.
    Der 2. Teil ist für mich eines des besten Rollenspiele überhaupt!
    Aber jeder hat dabei ja seinen eigenen Geschmack.
    Ich mag allgemein Rollenspiele mit Sci-Fi Inhalt nicht so gerne...
