Seit Wave Race stehen heiße Rennen auf kühlem Wasser bei Spielern hoch im Kurs. Doch dafür musste man bis jetzt auf Konsolen aus dem Hause Nintendo zurückgreifen. Mit Splashdown von Infogrames ist der erste Wasser-Racer für die PS2 erschienen. Wir haben uns für Euch auf die Sea-Doos und ins kalte Nass gestürzt und beantworten im Test die Frage, ob es die PS2 mit den Spielspaß-Giganten der Konkurrenz aufnehmen kann.

Rennspielerfahrung

Die Chancen stehen nicht schlecht für Splashdown. Immerhin stehen hinter der Wasserraserei die findigen Entwickler der Rainbow Studios, die sich schon mit Motocross Madness auf dem PC und ATV Offroad Fury für die PlayStation 2 einen Namen im heiß umkämpften Rennspiel-Dschungel machen konnten.
Beide Spiele konnten mit einer eingängigen Steuerung und einer akkuraten Physikengine aufwarten und Spieler dank eines durchdachten Gameplay-Systems begeistern.

Die Erfahrung merkt man Splashdown auch deutlich an: Die Steuerung ist annähernd perfekt und trägt so einiges zum Spielspaß bei.
Man hat einfach das Gefühl, so und nicht anders würden sich die Sea-Doos steuern, wenn man in der Realität auf den Wasserschlitten unterwegs sein würde.

Im Gegensatz zu den Jet-Ski-Spielen wie Wave Race oder Jet Ski Riders gibt es einen gewaltigen, physikalisch jedoch vollkommen korrekten Unterschied bei der Steuerung: Wenn der Stick und damit das Gewicht des Fahrers nach vorne gelegt wird, verlangsamt sich das Gefährt. Dementsprechend kann zusätzliche Geschwindigkeit aufgebaut werden, wenn das Gewicht nach hinten verlagert wird.

Um die Rennen gegen die teilweise recht anspruchsvollen Konkurrenz-Fahrer gewinnen zu können, muss man diese Technik auch stark beherzigen – simples Gas geben und die Bojen umkurven reicht schon mittelfristig gesehen nicht mehr aus.
Hört sich jedoch komplizierter an als es ist, denn schon nach wenigen Trainingsrennen hat man den Bogen raus und kann sich im Arcade-Modus oder in der Karriere vergnügen und die Konkurrenz Wasser schlucken lassen.
