Humanhead Studios haben sich intensiv mit der Kultur der Nordmänner beschäftigt und sich größtenteils an architektonische und stilistische Vorbilder der Wikingerzeit gehalten. So finden sich z.B. auf den Querbalken und Türen mancher Langhäuser schöne Holzschnitzereien in der nordischen Flechtband-Ornamentik. Trotzdem betont Chef-Entwickler Timothy Gerritsen: “[but] Rune is an action game – it`s not the Discovery Channel – so we have to keep it fun and interesting.” Aus diesem Grund müssen sich die Wikinger-Kenner unter Euch wieder mal über die unhistorischen Hörnerhelme ärgern.

Die Level sind wirklich beeindruckend und abwechslungsreich gestaltet. Hier wurde das ganze Potenzial der aufgepeppten Unreal-Engine genutzt. Gerade im Hinblick auf Grafik und Sound haben die Entwickler wirklich ein atmosphärisches Meisterstück vollbracht: Die ganze Nahkampf-Action gewinnt erst durch das sehr gute Leveldesign und den abwechslungsreichen Sound an Klasse. Man fühlt sich teilweise an das bedrohlich-dunkle Flair von Heretic 2 erinnert – kein Wunder, denn zahlreiche Mitglieder des Humanhead-Teams haben an der Heretic-Reihe mitgearbeitet.

Insbesondere die Hintergrundmusik und der Sound sorgen für die düstere Endzeit-Atmosphäre: Stimmen flüstern geheimnisvoll in Runenhainen und künden vom drohenden Unheil, traurig-melodische Passagen begleiten Ragnar in der Unterwelt, und wenn Euch urplötzlich ein brachialer Orchestersound zusammenzucken lässt, dann könnt ihr sicher sein, dass gerade ein Eistroll aus der Deckung jagt – wahrscheinlich hinter Euch.

  1. Woher hast du den Test denn jetzt ausgegraben? ;) Aber das Spiel war schon saugeil, vorallem das Wikingerdorf war von der Atmosphäre her der Hammer. Ein richtig schönes Winterspiel.
