Längst hinfälliges Comeback

Egal, ob man das Original kennt oder nicht, OutRun war und ist eine der beliebtesten Arcade-Rasereien überhaupt und feierte mit Teil zwei in der Spielhalle ein gelungenes Comeback. Um aber

auch in den heimischen vier Wänden erfolgreich sein zu können, hätte eine 1:1-Umsetzung nicht ausgereicht. Und so haben die Entwickler den Umfang kräftig aufgebohrt. So gibt es neben dem Arcade- nun auch noch einen Challenge- und Xbox Live-Modus, um euch bei Laune zu halten.

Direkt aus der Spielhalle

Doch selbst der Arcade-Modus hat einiges zu bieten. So könnt ihr im klassischen OutRun-Modus eine nicht-lineare Checkpoint-Hatz durch insgesamt 15 abwechslungsreiche Etappen veranstalten, im Heart Attack-Modus die Wünsche eurer Beifahrerin erfüllen oder im Time Attack-Modus eure persönlichen Bestzeiten via Ghostcar-Duell verbessern. Über Xbox Live können zudem die Ghostcar-Daten anderer Spieler heruntergeladen und eure eigenen Rekorddaten hochgeladen werden.

Mit Vollgas ins Netz

Wer sein Können lieber im Wettkampf unter Beweis stellt, kann natürlich auch direkt gegen andere Spieler antreten. Dies geht allerdings nur via Systemlink oder Xbox Live. Einen Splitscreen-Modus haben die Entwickler nämlich nicht implementiert. Wer sich ohne Internet oder Netzwerk mit seinen
Schnell, aber nutzlos: Die starre Fahrerperspektive ist zum Driften völlig ungeeignet.
Freunden messen will, kann dies nur im so genannten Party-Modus tun, wo man allerdings nicht gleichzeitig, sondern nur nacheinander auf die Strecke geht, um diverse Fahraufgaben zu meistern.

Und der Rest schaut zu

Diese Aufgaben werden jeweils zufällig ausgewählt und gleichen denen des Challenge-Modus oder Heart Attack-Modus, wo ihr mit ausgiebigem Driften, unfallfreiem Überholen oder Einhalten von vorgegebenen Mindestgeschwindigkeiten Herzen sammelt, die anschließend in Punkte umgerechnet werden, um am Ende den Sieger zu ermitteln. Allerdings kommt dabei schnell Langeweile auf, da immer nur ein Spieler aktiv ist, während der Rest mehr oder weniger tatenlos zuschaut.
