Jetzt ist die stärkste Hockeyliga der Welt auch auf dem Dreamcast zu Hause. Im Auftrag von Sega Sports und Visual Concepts liefert Blackbox nun das dritte Spiel der 2K-Reihe ab. Mal sehen, ob Blackbox den Standard halten kann.

Spielbarkeit/Gameplay

Nach einem fetzigen Intro (mit 2000er Countdown) wird man von einem einfachen Menü empfangen. Zur Auswahl stehen: Exibition, Saison und Playoffs. Wem das alles zu langwierig ist, der kommt über ein Quickstart sehr schnell ins eigentliche Spiel.
Einen Trainingsmodus sucht man aber leider vergeblich.

Du möchtest Deine Spielstände speichern? Dann solltest Du Dir außerdem eine neue Memorycard anschaffen, denn das Spiel belegt satte 145 Blöcke.

Das ganze Joypad wird bis auf das Digipad komplett genutzt. Also Pass, Schuss, Bodycheck, Sprint, das wars. Die L- und R-Tasten sind für Taktik und Linechanging reserviert. Wem das alles ein wenig zu viel ist, kann letztes auch dem Rechenknecht überlassen.

Die KI der Spieler ist gut manchmal bleiben sie jedoch leider am Tor oder am Schiedsrichter hängen.

Grafik/Sound

Die Grafik weiß in allen Belangen zu überzeugen. Neue Animationen für Schüsse, Bodychecks und spektakuläre Goalieparaden, sowie das neue “Gesichtsmapping” lassen die Hockeycracks realistischer denn je aussehen.

Auch die Zuschauer sind einzeln animiert und untermalen die Szenerie mit rythmischem Klatschen (besonders wenn man z.B. mit einem Tor im Rückstand liegt) und anfeuernden Rufen.

All dies sorgt für den besten Realismus aller Eishockeygames.

Der Sound überzeugt wie bei den Vorgängern und sorgt für das richtige Eishockeyfeeling. Auch die Beiträge der Kommentatoren trägt zu dieser Stimmung bei.
