Sportspiele erfreuen sich gerade auf Konsolen einer großen Beliebtheit, ist doch der Game Controller bestens für derartige Spiele geeignet. Kaum ist die Playstation 2 auf dem Markt, gibt es schon zwei sehr gute Fußballspiele, EA Sports´ Fifa 2001 und International Superstar Soccer (ISS) von Konami. Ihr habt die Qual der Wahl? Dann wollen wir versuchen, Euch ein wenig zu helfen…

Während Fifa 2001 doch eher im Actionbereich angesiedelt ist und dementsprechend schnell gespielt wird, liegt bei ISS doch eher eine Simulation im DVD-ROM Laufwerk der PS2. Schon die Menüs deuten an, dass dieses Spiel wesentlich komplexer als Fifa 2001 ist.

Gameplay

Spielt man das erste mal ISS, fragt man sich unweigerlich, warum alles ein wenig langsam auf dem Platz abläuft. Warum? Ganz einfach, weil bei diesem Spiel die Geschwindigkeit stimmt. Während in vielen anderen Fußballspielen der Platz im Eiltempo von hinten heraus in einem einzigartigen Solo aufgerollt werden kann, ist dies bei ISS kaum möglich. Die Spieler laufen und joggen mit realer Geschwindigkeit, d.h. man sollte eher nach dem Motto “Der Ball ist der schnellste Spieler” spielen und großzügig von den vielen Passvarianten Gebrauch machen.

ISS sieht gegenüber Fifa 2001 einfach realistischer aus. Nicht die Grafik oder die Animationen geben hier den Ausschlag, sondern einfach die Art und Weise wie ISS gespielt wird. Nicht jeder Pass landet exakt auf dem Fuß des Angespielten: die Pässe sind hin und wieder zu kurz, ein Pass in den freien Raum oder in den Lauf eines Spielers geht daneben usw. – das alles macht ISS zu einem Erlebnis, wohlgemerkt, für den der es mag.

Bei jedem Fußballspiel sollten Statistiken zum Standard-Repertoire gehören, und auch hier setzt ISS Maßstäbe. Sehr viele Statistiken sind bis ins kleinste Detail aufgebaut und lassen keine Wünsche offen. Auch die umfangreichen Einstellungen, die ISS zu Verfügung stellt, lassen keine Wünsche offen. So kann man Spieler nach Herzenslust editieren, man kann sogar neue Spieler anlegen, und wählt das Gesicht, die Frisur, usw.
