In guten alten 16-Bit-Zeiten hat ein unscheinbarer Regenwurm namens Jim das Jump&Run-Genre revolutioniert. Wenn auch spielerisch nichts Neues geboten wurde, hat Earthworm Jim durch seine Grafik uneingeschränkte Begeisterung hervorrufen können und ganz nebenbei noch den fantastischen Ruf von Dave Perry und Shiny Entertainment begründet. Ob die von Majesco programmierte GBA-Fassung mittlerweile antiquiert wirkt oder auch heute noch puren Spielspaß vermittelt, erfahrt Ihr im Test.

Die Legende lebt

Earthworm Jim: Ein Name, der bei Retro-Fans für ungehemmte Freude sorgen dürfte. Der knochenlose Superheld hat mit seinem Humor und seinem ausgefeilten Gameplay, eingepackt in schicke Grafik, auf dem Mega Drive und SNES für Spielspaß pur gesorgt.
Doch was ist davon übrig geblieben?
Auf jeden Fall die Story – bizarr und abgehoben wie eh und je braucht man eigentlich nur eines zu wissen: Ihr spielt einen Regenwurm in einem futuristischen Superhelden-Anzug, der die durchgeknallten Bösen durch sechs Level jagt und ihnen dabei gewaltig in den Comic-Hintern tritt.

Dazu steht Euch ein ganzes Arsenal an Bewegungen und Hilfsmittel zur Verfügung: Ihr könnt laufen, klettern, springen, Jims Kopf als Rotor benutzen und natürlich mit Eurer Handfeuerwaffe für Ruhe auf dem Bildschirm sorgen.

Auch beim Leveldesign und den Spielanforderungen wurden die Erfolgversionen der letzten Dekade erfolgreich auf den GBA übertragen: Was anfangs wie ein herkömmliches Jump&Run aussieht, wird recht schnell durch abwechslungsreiche Gameplay-Variationen zu einem kurzweiligen Spielspaß. Ob Ihr an einem Bungie-Jumping-Wettbewerb gegen einen Schnodder-Klumpen teilnehmt oder in einem anderen Level einen hilflosen Hundewelpen gegen allerlei Ungetüme verteidigen müsst: Abwechslung steht an der Tagesordnung.
