Im BMX bzw. Bike-Bereich sah es jedoch bis auf “No Fear Downhill” eher düster aus. Nach dem Erfolgsrezept “Gute Steuerung, lizenzierte Fahrer und jede Menge Extras” versucht Acclaim Max Sports (Das neue Sportlabel von Acclaim, welches EA Sports den Kampf ansagen möchte) mit Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX neue Käuferschichten anzusprechen.

Gameplay

Dave Mirra BMX ist dem Genre entsprechend cool durchgestylt. Am Anfang wird man mit ein paar lockeren Videos begrüßt, das Optionsmenü bietet einiges an Auswahlmöglichkeiten. Im Proquestmodus kann man verschiedene, in der Szene bekannte Biker wie Dave Mirra oder Ryan Nyquist auswählen. Nachdem man sich für ein Fahrrad und die passenden Klamotten entschieden hat (neue Räder und Outfits gibt`s nach erfolgreichem Beenden der Kurse) geht es auf den Übungsplatz. Bevor man jedoch neue Strecken aussuchen kann wird man vor verschiedene Aufgaben gestellt. Um z.b. die Greenville Pool Area zu erreichen muss man zunächst eine gewisse Punktzahl mit Tricks erreichen, über einen Baumstamm springen und 4 Boxen anrempeln. Das Geniale an der Sache ist, dass es bei jedem Fahrer andere Ziele zu erreichen gibt, was der Langzeitmotivation extrem zuträglich ist. Unmengen von Tricks können in den Arealen ausgeführt werden. Manche lassen sich mit der Zeit schon intuitiv erledigen, für die anderen lässt sich das Optionsmenü mit einer kompletten Liste jederzeit einblenden. Grundsätzlich führt der jeweilige Fahrer mit der X-Taste einen einfachen Sprung aus. Hat man genug Geschwindigkeit oder sogar in der Halfpipe Anlauf genommen, können mit den anderen Buttons Combos ausgeführt werden. Mit der Dreiecktaste kann auf allen Kanten, Geländern oder Poolrändern gegrinded werden.
