Nachdem Vampir Kain bereits in zwei Spielen auf diversen Systemen die Hauptrolle spielen konnte und in weiteren zwei Spielen als Antagonist von Raziel für Grauen sorgen konnte, sucht er nun die Xbox heim. Blood Omen 2 stellt gleichzeitig die Xbox-Premiere des klassischen Action-Adventures dar und wir waren natürlich gespannt, wie hoch Kain die Latte für die Nachfolger legen kann. In einem ausführlichen Test haben wir dem erfolgreichsten Spiele-Vampir aller Zeiten auf den Zahn gefühlt.

Rache-Engel

Die grundlegende Story spielt 200 Jahre nach Kains erstem (Psone-/PC-) Abenteuer und damit 2000 Jahre, bevor er sich mit Raziel in den Soul Reaver-Spielen auseinandersetzen muss.
In einer Schlacht von dem Anführer der Sarafanen -einer Vampir-jagenden Horde- fast getötet, findet sich Kain in der düsteren Stadt Meridian wieder. Er wurde von einem vorerst anonym bleibenden Gönner gerettet, der als Gegenleistung Kains Fähigkeiten im Kampf gegen die Sarafanen einfordert. Unterstützt von der Vampirin Uhma kann der Kampf beginnen…

Wenig Neues vom Meister

Die interessante Story, die sich erst nach und nach erschließt, bildet den stimmigen Hintergrund für ein durch und durch konventionelles Gameplay: Schon während des Tutorials, in dem Kain von Uhma an seine Fähigkeiten erinnert wird, erkennt man, dass Blood Omen 2 mehr auf Atmosphäre wert legt denn auf spielerische Innovationen.

Springen, Kämpfen und müde Schalterrätsel sind an der Tagesordnung. Selbst das Kistenschieben, das spätestens seit Tomb Raider herhalten muss, um lineares Leveldesign zu überbrücken und zu kaschieren, wurde integriert.

Abwechslung bringen da nur die viel zu selten einzusetzenden Spezialfähigkeiten Kains. So kann er zum Beispiel in bestimmten Gebieten eine Nebelform annehmen, die von den nur mäßig intelligent agierenden Gegner nicht erkannt wird – was Kain wiederum die Möglichkeit bietet, den anvisierten Feind mit einem gezielten Todesstoß auszuschalten.
