HTC möchte offenbar mehr Virtual-Reality-Fans und Steam-VR-Nutzer in das eigene Software-Ökosystem locken: Auf der CES kündigte das Unternehmen an, dass der VR-Abo-Service Viveport sein Angebot verhundertfacht. Statt fünf Titeln pro Monat sollen Abonennten bald Zugriff auf 500 Titel bekommen – also faktisch fast der halbe Katalog, der insgesamt über 1000 Spiele und Anwendungen anbietet.

Der offizielle Blog spricht dabei zudem von den “500 besten Apps” des Stores. Viveport unterstützt neben dem hauseigenen Headset Vive übrigens auch die Oculus Rift. HTC versucht offenbar, ein VR-Gegenstück zu Netflix im VR-Bereich zu etablieren und die Dominanz von SteamVR zu überwinden. UploadVR mutmaßt in einem Kommentar sogar, dass es sich um HTCs ersten großen Schritt zum Abschied von SteamVR handlen könne.

Die Kosten für das neue Angebot mit 500 monatlich verfügbaren Spielen wurden noch nicht verkündet, HTC spricht in dem Zusammenhang bislang nur von einem “niedrigen Preis”. Bisher reicht der in mehreren Monatsmodellen gestaffelte Preis von einem kostenlosen Probeabo für 14 Tage bis hin zu 89,99 Euro für ein Jahr. Monentan unterscheidet sich dabei allerdings auch die Zahl der nutzbaren Spiele:

Eigentlich nicht schlecht dieses Abo für VR Spiele, die Sache hat allerdings einen großen Haken, wenn ich das richtig verstehe: Viele der richtig guten und "großen" Spiele dort, sind in dem Abo nicht mit drin, sondern die müsste man dann zusätzlich wieder ganz normal kaufen. Macht ein bisschen den Eindruck, als würden sie nur den Schrott in das Abo packen.
