Mit dem Steam Deck hat Valve es nach ein paar Anläufen geschafft, im Hardware-Sektor festen Fuß zu fassen – und direkt für jede Menge Konkurrenz gesorgt. Lenovo, MSI und ASUS haben längst eigene Handheld-PCs veröffentlicht. Auf der IT-Messe Computex hat sich nun auch ZOTAC zu Wort gemeldet.

Das aus Hongkong stammende Hardware-Unternehmen ist vermutlich einigen als Hersteller von Nvidia GeForce-Grafikkarten bekannt. Zukünftig könnte euch der Name aber ebenso in anderer Form über den Weg laufen: Der ZOTAC Zone tritt in direkte Konkurrenz zum Steam Deck und setzt dafür auf verhältnismäßig leistungsstarke Hardware.

ZOTAC Zone: Das kann der neue Konkurrent des Steam Decks

Ein 7 Zoll großes Display, Unterstützung bis zu 120 Hertz, 1080p-Darstellung und AMOLED: Auf dem Blatt Papier geizt ZOTAC bei der Vorstellung seines Handheld-PCs nicht mit tollen Worten. Vom Steam Deck leiht man sich derweil die Idee von zwei Trackpads, mit denen die Steuerung via Maus emuliert werden kann.

Nur was steckt unter der Haube? Nichts allzu überraschendes: Auch ZOTAC setzt auf eine AMD-Zusammenstellung. Der Prozessor ist ein AMD Ryzen 7 8840U mit acht Kernen, während der Grafikchip eine AMD Radeon 780M ist. Die APU wird standardmäßig mit 15 Watt betrieben, aber bietet zusätzlich einen Leistungsmodus mit bis zu 28 Watt. Praktisch: Die Watt-Einstellungen könnt ihr über einen Drehregler am Gerät justieren und benötigt dafür keine Software.

Im Vergleich mit dem Steam Deck gibt es noch ein paar Unterschiede: ZOTAC nutzt Hall-Effect-Joysticks, um den in den letzten Jahren immer stärker werdenden Trend des Stick Drifts entgegen zu wirken. Außerdem ist eine Frontkamera für Livestreams verbaut. Als Betriebssystem dient derweil Windows 11.

Akku-Laufzeit und Preis

Die technischen Spezifikationen sind bis dahin sehr ordentlich, allerdings dürfte der Akku recht enttäuschend sein. ZOTAC hat sich für 48,5 Wattstunden entschieden, was sogar noch unter dem Steam Deck OLED liegt. Je nach Spiel werdet ihr demnach nicht allzu viel Spaß mit dem Full-HD-Display haben.

Immerhin in Sachen Speicher hält ZOTAC mit: Verbaut ist eine SSD mit 512 Gigabyte Speicher, zusätzlich können Micro-SD-Karten genutzt werden. Beim Thema Arbeitsspeicher kommt der ZOTAC Zone auf 16 Gigabyte – Standard für die Riege der Gaming-Handhelds.

Beim Preis müsst ihr hingegen deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen als beim Steam Deck. ZOTAC Zone ruft laut den spanischen Kolleg*innen von Geeknetic 800 Euro aus. Das wäre im Vergleich zum Steam Deck ein Preisunterschied zwischen 230 und 120 Euro, je nach gewählten Modell. Erscheinen soll ZOTACs Gaming-Handheld im 3. Quartal 2024.
