Neues Jahr, neuer Versuch: Abermals will Resident Evil den Schritt vom Videospiel zum Film bewältigen und zwar bereits im Sommer mit einer CGI-Umsetzung namens Resident Evil: Death Island.

 

Die frisch enthüllte Horror-Adaption ist die Fortsetzung zu Resident Evil: Vendetta von 2017 und bereits der vierte CGI-Film, den man aus dem Videospiel-Franchise macht. Seinen Anfang nahm die Reise 2008 mit Resident Evil: Degeneration, 2012 gefolgt von Resident Evil: Damnation. Dieses Mal setzt man auf geballte Helden-Power und hat mehrere Hauptcharaktere aus den ersten Spielen parat.

Resident Evil: Death Island – Teaser-Trailer und Release im Sommer

Zusammen mit der Ankündigung von Resident Evil: Death Island gab es bereits einen ungefähren Release-Zeitraum, eine Story-Synopse und einen kurzen Teaser-Trailer. Demnach soll der CGI-Film noch diesen Sommer erscheinen, verantwortlich für die Veröffentlichung ist Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Wo ihr Death Island dann gucken könnt, ist allerdings noch nicht bekannt.

Die Story der vierten CGI-Verfilmung dreht sich erneut um Leon S. Kennedy, der Dr. Antonio Taylor aus den Fängen von Kidnappern befreien will und bei seiner Mission auf eine mysteriöse Frau trifft. Chris Redfield ist ebenfalls mit von der Partie, ist allerdings mit dem Ausbruch einer Zombie-Seuche in San Francisco beschäftigt. Doch während die Ursache unklar bleibt, scheinen alle Wege auf die Gefängnis-Insel Alcatraz zu führen.

Wie der Teaser-Trailer zeigt, ist neben Leon und Chris auch Jill Valentine mit dabei, wodurch die Helden der ersten Spiele gleich allesamt im Film vertreten sind. Zusammengeführt werden sie von Regisseur Eiichiro Hasumi (Assassination Classroom), das Drehbuch stammt wiederum von Makoto Fukami (Psycho-Pass).

Ob Resident Evil: Death Island bei den Fans besser ankommt als vergangene Verfilmungen der Horror-Reihe, erfahren wir dann ab Sommer. Bisher sind aus dem Franchise schließlich eher verschriene Versuche entstanden, zuletzt erschien die Netflix-Serie Resident Evil ganz ohne Beinamen, die in unserer Kritik mit fehlender Atmosphäre und zusammenhangsloser Story nicht punkten konnte.
