In Spielen der Mortal Kombat-Reihe hat in den vergangenen Jahren schon die eine oder andere Horrorfilmikone ihre Aufwartung gemacht. Dementsprechend rätseln die Fans, ob es auch in Mortal Kombat 1 einen solchen Gastauftritt geben wird.

Leaks von Dataminern haben schon Ausblick auf potenzielle Charaktere – von innerhalb und außerhalb des Mortal Kombat-Universums – gegeben, die in der Zukunft Einzug ins Spiel halten können. Auch ein Protagonist einer populären Horrorfilmreihe war dabei.

Mortal Kombat 1: Boon teasert Ghostface als Gastcharakter an

Ed Boon, Co-Creator von Mortal Kombat 1, feuerte die Spekulationen mit einem Tweet an, in dem er ein Bild mit mehreren Horrorfilmcharakteren postete. Leatherface, Freddy Krueger und Jason Voorhees, die allesamt schon Gastauftritte in früheren Mortal Kombat-Games hatten, wurden dabei mit einem grünen Haken versehen. An anderen prangt ein dickes Fragezeichen, so etwa an Hellraiser, Jigsaw und Chucky die Mörderpuppe, aber auch an Ghostface aus der Reihe Scream.

Dass eine große Anzahl ein DLCs und viele zusätzliche Kampfcharaktere geplant sind, ist vonseiten Boons bereits bestätigt worden. Auf genannter Leak-Liste fanden sich unter anderem die Namen Noob Saibot, Cassie Cage und Jade; dass diese beliebten Figuren früher oder später aus dem Mortal Kombat-Franchise auch im neuesten Teil eingeführt werden, scheint wahrscheinlich. In Kombination mit Boons Post werden die Hinweise auf Ghostface schon sehr deutlich.

Mehr Informationen dürften wir spätestens auf den anstehenden New York Comic Con (12. bis 15. Oktober) bekommen. Für den ersten DLC sind als Gastcharaktere schon Homelander („The Boys“), Omni-Man („Invincible“) und Peacemaker („Suicide Squad“) bestätigt.
