Kaum ist die Fallout Serie auf Amazon erschienen, da wollte auch ein Fallout 4 Mod-Team von dem Hype profitieren. Der Release von Fallout London war für den 23. April vorgesehen, aber in quasi letzter Sekunde zogen die Hobby-Entwickler*innen die Notbremse. Der Grund dafür? Bethesda selbst.

Das Fallout-Studio veröffentlichte nämlich am 25. April das Next Gen-Update, wodurch zahllose Modifikationen überarbeitet werden mussten. Auch Fallout London war und ist davon betroffen, aber so langsam lichtet sich der Nebel. Wahrscheinlich müsst ihr wirklich nicht mehr lange warten, um bald auch außerhalb der USA die virtuelle Postapokalypse zu erleben.

Fallout 4 Mod: Ohne GOG wäre der Release von London kaum stemmbar

Eine vielleicht enttäuschende Nachricht vorweg: Einen neuen, festen Releasetermin gibt es für Fallout London derzeit nicht. Allerdings arbeitet das Team mit Hochdruck daran, die Arbeit fertigzustellen und endlich das Projekt zu veröffentlichen. Der Release soll “so schnell wie nur möglich” erfolgen, heißt es seitens des Project Lead Dean Carter in einem Interview mit The Gamer.

Eine weitere Schwierigkeit liegt darin, dass Fallout London selbst für eine Total Conversion wahrlich gigantisch ist. Um die 30 Gigabyte bringt der Download auf die Waage, weshalb die Mod-Plattform Nexusmods ausgestiegen ist. Für ihre Server ist das zu groß, eine Unterstützung sei nicht möglich.

Trotzdem hat Team FOLON schlussendlich einen Partner gefunden: GOG. Auf der Distributionsplattform von CD Projekt wird Fallout London veröffentlicht. Das sei jedoch gar nicht so einfach, wie ein Verantwortlicher von GOG im selben Interview erwähnt. Denn es würde die Gefahr bestehen, dass Spieler*innen die London-Mod als einen offiziellen DLC wahrnehmen, obwohl er dies nicht ist. Dies sei eine Herausforderung, der man sich aber stellen möchte.

Konsolenversion ist absolut unwahrscheinlich

Wann der Download von Fallout London möglich sein wird, bleibt noch abzuwarten. Klar ist aber schon jetzt: Die Fallout 4 Mod wird es nur für den PC geben. Ihr müsst dafür übrigens nicht das Originalspiel auf GOG erwerben, sondern auch Steam-Exemplare werden unterstützt. Spieler*innen auf der Konsole schauen hingegen in die Röhre.

Auf der PS4, PS5, Xbox One und Xbox Series X|S wird Fallout London definitiv nicht erscheinen. Ähnlich wie bei den Oblivion- und Skyrim-Großprojekten Nehrim und Enderal ist dies technisch schlicht nicht umsetzbar. Immerhin könnt ihr auf den PlayStation-Konsolen derzeit die offiziellen Erweiterungen für Fallout 4 kostengünstig nachholen.
