Nach viel Kritik, die nicht nur in Form von vielen negativen Nutzer-Reviews bei Steam geäußert wurde (30% von 1.217 Nutzerreviews in den letzten 30 Tagen waren “positiv”), haben Firaxis Games und 2K Games die in Civilization 6 enthaltene Software “Red Shell” komplett entfernt.

Red Shell von Innervate ist ein Marketing- und Analyse-Softwaretoolkit für Spiele, das Entwickler in ihre Titel implementieren können und dadurch Zugriff auf spezifische Analysedaten erhalten (wir berichteten). Der Red-Shell-Dokumentation  auf der offiziellen Webseite ist zu entnehmen, dass Informationen einschließlich Betriebssystem, Browser-Version, IP-Adresse (anonymisiert durch Hashing), Bildschirmauflösung, Benutzer-ID im Spiel und Schriftartenprofile gesammelt werden. Allerdings hebt Innervate hervor, dass keine persönlichen Informationen über die Spieler gesammelt werden – also keine Adressen (geographische Position), Namen oder E-Mail-Adressen. In der Fragen-und-Antworten-Sektion spricht Innervate davon, dass Red Shell keine Spyware ist, da “kein Code auf dem Computer außerhalb des Spiels ausführt wird”.

Darüber hinaus sind nach der Installation des Updates auf v1.0.0.262 auch Cross-Plattform-Mehrspieler-Matches (PC und Mac) möglich.

  1. Die Linux-Synchronisation ist noch nicht so weit, aber die Entwickler haben ein gutes Stück aufgeholt und wird vielleicht in einigen Wochen erscheinen.

    Das sind auf jeden Fall gute Neuigkeiten und ich werde mal wieder vorbei schauen wenn es so weit ist. Schön das Red Shell entfernt wurde.
    Aber wenn ich schon diese Äußerung höre: "kein Code auf dem Computer außerhalb des Spiels ausführt wird". Wird mir übel.
    1. Weil es halt vom Spiel selber ausgeführt wird.
    2. Sie explizit die Server, auf denen die Anfragen bearbeitet und hoch geladen werden ausgeschlossen haben.
